NOVA
LIFT & DAVITS |
![]() |
The Concept Nova Lift was designed specifically to handle the task of loading and unloading stores and equipment on sailboats. Now, by teaming your existing cockpit winch power with Nova Lift, you can safely and easily accomplish these tasks. With Nova Lift, the sailor can now lift a 15hp outboard easily and safely with far less risk to his topsides, often performing the task single handed. No longer risk overnight loss of your valuable outboard in an unsavory anchorage because it was too much of a struggle to haul aboard that night.... The list of uses is endless, from generators, batteries, dive equipment, large pets, large fish, fuel & water jugs, propane bottles, stores and so on........ |

How it Works By carefully forming stainless steel tube with strategically placed internal reinforcing, we have been able to produce an arm that is smooth externally, strong and yet still surprisingly lightweight. Couple this with other features, such as, internal line guides, special cast end fitting, a rotatable mount tube with its own exit box, bearings and cleat. Also a unique rail clamp assembly allows easy installation of Nova Lift on almost any vessel. The light weight arm slips telescopically into the mount tube which is securely clamped to the vessels stern rail while its foot is attached to the deck coaming or transom by an adjustable foot mount assembly. The lifting line, which passes down inside of the arm, transfers to and exits the mount tube via a sheave box, where it is directed to the chosen cockpit winch for smooth and easy lifting. |

Capabilities Nova
Lift |
|
Nova Lift was designed specifically to handle the task of loading and unloading stores and equipment on sailboats. It can be easily installed on almost any sailboat and works in conjunction with an existing winch. Install Forespar's new Nova Lift and you'll wonder how and why you struggled with those difficult lifting tasks before. No more hassles, struggling, wrenched backs or chipped gel coating when you use a Nova Lift.
Nova Lift offers many unique features:
|
| Carefully
formed stainless steel tubing with strategically placed internal reinforcing
produces an arm that is smooth externally, strong and yet still surprisingly
lightweight.
Internal line guides, special cast end fitting, a rotating mount tube with it's own exit box, bearings, cleat and a unique rail clamp assembly makes this hoist unique and easy to install on almost any vessel. The light weight arm slips telescopically into the mount tube which is securely clamped to the vessel's stern rail while its base (adjustable to a 60 degree slope) is attached to the deck, coaming or transom. The lifting line, which easily passes down inside the arm, exits the mount tube via a sheave box. The mounting tube can rotate 360 degrees in order to align the sheave box with the chosen cockpit winch before clamping. The rail clamp attaches to railings up to 1 1/8" diameter sloping up to 30 degrees from horizontal. |

| Nova
Lift accommodates railing heights up to 30" high.
Vessels with rails higher than 30" will require the use of a deck
pad (not included) to raise the installation to the proper height.
Nova Lift comes with all rail and deck mounting hardware, 30 feet of 3/8" Sta Set line, Harken swivel block and special deep throated S hook. Only extras required are (3) 1/4" diameter screws or bolts suitable for attaching the base. Mounting tube should be installed vertically. The rails on some installations such as a canoe stern have a lot of outward flare. To accommodate this situation, Forespar offers a 2" standoff and a 5" standoff which consists of an extended saddle and bolt kit. Caution:
It is extremely important that the vessel's rails are attached securely
and in good condition. The side load on the top rail is approximately
70% of the lifted load (varies with railing height). |

OPTIONAL ITEMS
| Forespar
offers optional items for lifting and mounting outboard motors.
Our outboard motor mounts are unique in that they can be mounted along any straight section of railing because they also attach to the lower rail to provide the necessary rotational support. They do not have to be attached adjacent to a vertical post as with other brands. These high quality mounts are available in white plastic. |

Forespar's Rail Mount Dingy Davits for sailboats and powerboats are strong, attractive and offer a quick and simple stern rail installation. Davits mounted on your stern rail give added height to your dingy, helping to avoid swamping or loosing the dingy when your boat is healed under sail. Our new design and styling offer the benefits of light weight and excellent lifting capacity. A pair of Nova Davits has a safe working load rating of 300 pounds and are designed for dinghies in the 6 to 11 foot range (usually an inflatable). Constructed from thick wall 304 stainless steel and strategically sleeved to provide double wall thickness in high load areas, each davit is tested to 300 pounds which is double its rated working capacity. Integral welded stainless steel heads, which incorporate high quality Harken roller ball bearing sheaves, greatly add to the smooth operation and reduced chance of line tangling as compared to the more common block and tackle systems. A pair of diagonal braces are included in the design to stabilize your davits while sailing or motoring. In addition, the davits are hinged and can be swung inward in a matter of seconds for storage or to reduce slip length. Complete removal is also possible in a matter of minutes. Combine these features into a clean and attractive new style, built entirely from polished stainless steel, and you have a davit system that can actually add to the looks of your yacht while performing its task effortlessly.
We have found that it is very easy to build big bulky davits with a much greater lifting capacity, however, the governing factor is the strength of the supporting stern rails. Our tests have shown that an average double row stern rail, securely mounted to the deck structure, can support 180 pounds of load per davit arm with a 38" reach. Therefore, we have designed and built our davits accordingly; light weight, strong and with a capacity in proportion with the supporting rails while always keeping in mind the need to make our davits look good on your boat.
Installation: The davit foot socket bases are 2.9" in diameter and designed to be placed in-line with the feet of the existing stern rails. In this position, the davit head is approximately 10" above the top rail. Positioning the foot inboard or outboard of this line will raise or lower the davit's outer end sheaves. The base assemblies tilts to accommodate most deck or transom angles and also allow the davits to rotate for more compact stowage. Positioning to a wider base setting is preferable, and locating the davits near a vertical stanchion will also add stability. We require the exact diameter (usually 1") and height of your stern rail, which should be measured from the deck to rail top at the point of intended mounting. Two size ranges are available to fit rails from 24" to 27" and 27" to 31". The bottom of the leg may need trimming to get the exact height required for the rail clamp to match up properly with the stern rail. Each
davit pair comes with all rail clamps and base mounting hardware
(except for deck screws or bolts). The kit also includes forty feet
(40) of high quality line per davit arm, a pair of double blocks
(providing a 4:1 lift ratio), two caribineer hooks for quick
attachment and lifting security. A standard cleat and Harken cam
cleat rope jammer is also provided standard on each davit arm.
